Buddy the elf makes his debut in Las Vegas just in time for the holidays. “Elf the Musical,” the story of an orphan who crawls inside Santa Claus’ bag of gifts and ends up at the North Pole, comes to the Smith Center for the Performing Arts for shows Nov. 24-29.

The Broadway musical tells the tale of a young boy who doesn’t realize he’s human, but his size -- compared to that of his elf companions -- and his inability to make toys send him on a journey back to New York City to find his birth father. Along the way, he finds out who he really is and helps New York discover what Christmas is all about.

The musical is based on the 2003 film starring Will Ferrell and James Caan.

“Elf” features songs by Tony Award nominees Matthew Sklar and Chad Beguelin, who also wrote music for “The Wedding Singer,” with a book by Tony Award winners Thomas Meehan of “Annie,” “The Producers” and “Hairspray” fame and Bob Martin of “The Drowsy Chaperone.”
