From the Archives: Pat Boone and family arrive in Los Angeles
June 1, 1959: Singer Pat Boone, wearing his trademark white buckskins, arrives with his wife Shirley and their daughters — Lindy, 3, left, Cheryl, 4, Laurie, 1, and Debbie, 2 — at Los Angeles International Airport. (Los Angeles Times Archive / UCLA)

A Los Angeles Times photographer met the family at the airport. The Boone family arrived on an American Airlines flight from New York City.

This image was not published in 1959 after two similar images of the Boone family had appeared in The Times in 1957 and 1958. This image did appear in the 1999 Los Angeles Times book, "High Exposure: Hollywood Lives — Found Photos From the Archives of the Los Angeles Times."

Boone had returned to Los Angeles to begin filming of "Journey to the Center of the Earth." Boone portrayed Alec McEwan in the 1959 adaption of the Jules Verne novel.

This post originally was published on April 13, 2011.

Shirley Boone passed away on Jan. 11, 2019.
