Apple CEO Tim Cook emails customer, promises 2013 Mac pro update

Share

Apple Chief Executive Tim Cook emailed one of his customers Monday and promised that the tech giant has big things planned for its Mac Pro line of computers in 2013.

The email from Cook followed the Worldwide Developers Conference keynote in which Apple neglected to mention the Mac Pro line despite labeling it with a “NEW” tag on its website and giving it a minor update that included improved processors.

To appease concerned Mac Pro loyalists who yearn to see their computer given a significant update after waiting since 2010, Cook said in the email that Apple’s Mac Pro customers are very important to the company and will be taken care of next year.

“Although we didn’t have a chance to talk about a new Mac Pro at today’s event, don’t worry as we’re working on something really great for later next year,” the Apple CEO said in an email that was confirmed authentic by Apple’s public relations team to Macworld.

The email was reposted in a Facebook group called “We Want a New Mac Pro” that launched last month and has more than 18,000 “likes.”

Although all of the new MacBooks announced yesterday were given new USB 3.0 ports and Thunderbolt ports, users of the Mac Pro line were left disappointed.

That led many of the users in the Facebook group to post comments expressing their disatisfaction with Monday’s minor update to the Mac Pro line.

“This is actually worse than nothing to me,” one user said in the group. “It’s like a smack in the face.”

And perhaps as a response to the traction the group is gaining, Apple has removed the “NEW” label that previously hovered above the Mac Pro on its website following the 2012 WWDC keynote. That change happened today despite Cook mentioning Monday’s minor update to the Mac Pro line in his email.

So although Cook has gone out of his way to personally comfort Mac Pro customers that their time will come, the next Mac Pro update is a ways away. So far away that Cook practically advised the Apple customer to go ahead and get the new MacBook Pro with a Retina display in the meantime.

“We also announced a MacBook Pro with a Retina Display that is a great solution for many pros,” he says in the email.
