Deaf West Theatre’s new staging of “Spring Awakening,” which is set to open on Broadway on Sunday, was a standout among this year’s Ovation Award nominations, scoring 15, while the Ebony Repertory Theatre’s production of the musical “The Gospel of Colonus,” which was seen this summer at the Nate Holden Performing Arts Center, received 14.

The nominations, which were announced on Thursday, included 14 nods each for the Ebony Repertory Theatre and Center Theatre Group. “Chavez Ravine: An L.A. Revival,” from Culture Clash and presented by CTG, received seven nods

The awards, which recognize excellence in Los Angeles theater, will be presented in a ceremony Nov. 9 at the Ahmanson Theatre in downtown L.A.

Other theater groups to score multiple nominations include the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts, with 13, of which 11 were for its presentation of Deaf West’s “Spring Awakening.” Deaf West received four nominations for its original staging of the musical, directed by Michael Arden, at Inner-City Arts.

La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts and Sacred Fools Theater Company received 10 nods each.

The nominees for best overall season are La Mirada, the L.A. LGBT Center, the Rubicon Theatre Company, the Theatre @ Boston Court and the Wallis. Other notable nominees this year include acting nods for Tony Shaloub and Laurie Metcalf, and playwrighting nods for Samuel Hunter and Adam Bock.

Organizers said that for the 2014-2015 voting season, there were a 297 total productions registered from 118 companies.

The Ovations, organized by the L.A. Stage Alliance, are voted on by local theater professionals chosen each year through an application process by the Ovation Rules Committee.
