Will Naked Jeff Koons be the art world’s Grumpy Cat?

Share

Sure, there are important regional biennials and quiet retrospectives of under-regarded artists going on all around town, but what currently has the art world all atitter is the sight of Jeff Koons’ bare posterior. The artist recently posed for Vanity Fair ... without any choners.

This shouldn’t come as a surprise from the guy that once made ink-jet paintings that showed him in flagrante delicto with his then-wife, porn star Cicciolina. But it does make for terrific public relations in advance of his upcoming retrospective at the Whitney Museum.

Naturally, the Internet has responded. And the Naked Koons spoofs are already starting to surface -- with heady references to the French avant-garde of the early 20th century and Norman Rockwell. If someone could do something that brings Grumpy Cat and Surprised Patrick with Naked Koons together in one single piece of awesome Internet memeness, I would be eternally grateful.
