News Corp. reveals corporate logo for 21st Century Fox

News Corp. has unveiled its corporate logo for its new incarnation.

The company, following the spinoff of its publishing assets, plans to take the name 21st Century Fox. The new logo is a stripped-down version of the one that has served the legendary Los Angeles movie studio for decades.

The moody blue sky and hulking golden pedestal are gone, but the sweeping klieg lights remain.

“Today I am proud to unveil our new logo, which serves as a powerful symbol of the inspiration and high bar set by our company,” News Corp. Chief Executive Rupert Murdoch said Thursday in an email to employees.

“Like our name, the logo reflects the rich heritage of Twentieth Century Fox and signals the promise of the 21st century and our restless drive toward the future,” Murdoch wrote.

The media conglomerate is on track to divide into two separate publicly traded companies by June 30, which is the end of the company’s fiscal year.

Murdoch will be chairman and chief executive of 21st Century Fox. He will serve as chairman of the new publishing company, which will take the name News Corp. as part of the divorce. In a somewhat curious nod to the previous century, the movie and television studios will maintain their current names of 20th Century Fox and 20th Century Fox Television.
