‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ gets new ninja rap from Wiz Khalifa

Call us old-fashioned, but we say you can’t have a true “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” movie without a corny, catchy rap song, preferably one cut by an au courant artist.

Now Paramount Pictures and Atlantic Records have obliged with “Shell Shocked,” a new single from the “TMNT” soundtrack by Wiz Khalifa, Ty Dolla Sign and Oscar winner Juicy J.

Produced by Kill the Noise and Madsonik, the EDM-laced track (which you can listen to above) features punny, thematically appropriate lines such as “Together ain’t no way we gonna fail / You know I got your back just like a turtle shell,” plus a chorus of “Knock, knock, you about to get shell-shocked!”

If it all sounds ridiculous, bear in mind that we’re talking about a movie in which a quartet of mutated humanoid turtles use their martial-arts skills to fight crime.

For those familiar with the original live-action “Turtles” movies of the 1990s, “Shell Shocked” will no doubt call to mind Vanilla Ice and his oddly infectious single “Ninja Rap” from “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze.” That song, of course, implored the reptile heroes to “Go ninja, go ninja, go!”

Alas, Ice himself has struggled (and mostly failed) to reclaim his ‘90s glory in the years since. We’ll soon see if “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles,” which opens Aug. 8, has better luck.
