Arcade Fire’s release-day gig: It’s outside Capitol Records building

In case you’ve been lost at sea and starved of Instagram, Twitter and potable drinking water for the last six months, the Arcade Fire have a new album out Tuesday called “Reflektor.” A few years in the making and mostly produced by the band with James Murphy (LCD Soundsystem, DFA) and longtime collaborator Markus Dravs, the album is the first from the Grammy Award-winning, Montreal-based band since it snagged the album of the year award for its 2010 record, “The Suburbs.”

Recently Arcade Fire has been popping up in various cities – and “Saturday Night Live” and “The Colbert Report” – to market its release, and as part of the rollout the band had announced a Tuesday, Oct. 29, L.A. gig at an undisclosed location in conjunction with the MTV Iggy and Intel “The Music Experiment 2.0.” That undisclosed location, Pop & Hiss has learned, will be outside of Capitol Records building in Hollywood.

No tickets are for sale to the show. Fans can only secure entry through what the the Music Experiment has described as “social media challenges” at the site. Earn tickets by contributing creatively – in the form of decorated CDs, “Reflektor”-related memes, smartphone self-portraits and more. It’s also been requested that winners come to the concert wearing costumes.

Those unable or unwilling to jump through the hoops can see the gig via live stream or on demand at www.MusicExperiment.com as well as the Music Experiment Windows application. There, viewers can pick camera angles, stalk a favorite band member and/or edit their own experience.

Expect a flood of fans to roll into Hollywood during rush hour. Since the gig is outside, no doubt many will make the trek to hear, if not see, the band, regardless of their willingness to get creative.

It’ll be a busy week for the Arcade Fire. The band will perform a closed gig for NPR at Capitol on Monday, and on Thursday will play at the Hollywood Palladium as the Reflektors.

For Tuesday’s outdoor concert, gates are set to open at 5 p.m. and the show will begin at 6:30 p.m.
