The two new tracks that Kanye West posted Monday heavily reference familiar tunes from his orbit. But they might also hint at where he’s heading with his much-anticipated next LP, “SWISH.”

The singles appear on West’s newly active Soundcloud page, and bear the titles “When I See It” and “Say You Will.” The latter should be especially familiar to L.A.-area Kanye fans: It’s a new remix of a popular track from his “808’s & Heartbreak” album, which he recently reprised over two nights at the Hollywood Bowl. The art posted with the singles matches the dripping-flower motif from the “808’s” show’s printed program.

The remix features contributions from Caroline Shaw, the young composer who is a recent Pulitzer Prize winner.

“When I See It” dips heavily into a sample of The Weeknd’s “Tell Your Friends,” which West co-produced. Given its healthy use of Auto-Tune, it might suggest that Kanye is again in a ruminative, “808’s”-era mood as he puts the last touches on “SWISH.”

West has recently been more in the spotlight for his fashion design work, including a mixed-reviewed collection at New York Fashion Week this fall. But while the future plans for these new tunes are uncertain (this may just be a vault-clearing gesture of unreleased material), it’s likely more songs are on their way. Travis Scott, a favored West collaborator, implied as much in posting the songs with a brief, grammatically-cryptic note: “It’s starts.”
