CBS adds ‘Zoo’ to returning summer lineup

CBS is adding an unusual thriller to its summer lineup with the new series “Zoo,” based on the novel by perennial bestseller James Patterson.

The series, starring James Wolk, Kristen Connolly, Billy Burke, Nonso Anozie and Nora Arnezeder, is set in a world where animals have finally had enough of humans and are starting to attack them with ever increasing violence and aggression. It’s up to a “renegade biologist,” played by Wolk, to figure out what’s causing the animals to want to wipe us out. Though, one look at the endangered species list would probably give you a pretty good hint as to the animals’ complaints.

“Zoo,” which premieres June 30, joins a lineup of returning series, including the third season of “Under the Dome,” the second season of “Extant” and the latest edition of the reality hit “Big Brother.”

As in years past, “Big Brother” will be a big part of the lineup, with a two-night premiere on June 24 and 25. The show will move into its regular Sunday timeslot on June 28 with the live eviction show hosted by Julie Chen airing on Thursday, July 2.

The third season of “Under the Dome” adds former “CSI” star Marg Helgenberger in an extended guest star spot as the town’s residents are still trying to figure out what’s going on with that darn dome over their heads. The series has a two-hour premiere on June 25 before moving to its regular Thursday time period on July 2.

The second season of “Extant” adds Jeffrey Dean Morgan to the cast as a mysterious stranger who, along with Halle Berry’s astronaut character, may be humanity’s only hope for survival. The series returns July 1.
