‘Community,’ ‘Whitney’ return date gets nixed

Share

“Community” and “Whitney” will not premiere their seasons Oct. 19 on NBC as planned.

Wait! Don’t tweet just yet. The shows will definitely be coming back, a network spokesperson assured, “within the next few months.”

And when the comedies do return, you won’t necessarily find them on Fridays. A different source says the network seems to be keeping an eye on whether they’ll work best in its other comedy nights —Tuesdays and Wednesdays — instead.

The network has already announced its Tuesday freshman comedies “Go On” and “The New Normal” were given full-season orders. But the outlook is less certain for its underperforming Wednesday newbies “Animal Practice” and “Guys with Kids.”

“Community,” which welcomes showrunners Moses Port and David Guarascio after Dan Harmon’s exit, had been moved from its Thursday slot to Fridays. And “Whitney” was set to make yet another move, this time from Wednesdays to Fridays. The delay is being described as a way to give both shows proper marketing support.

No word on when a decision is expected for when “Community” and “Whitney” would roll out.
