‘Duck Dynasty’s’ Willie Robertson going to State of the Union

Tuesday night’s State of the Union address from President Barack Obama will get a reality TV guest star with the presence of “Duck Dynasty” cast member Willie Roberston.

Robertson, who serves as the chief executive of the Robertson family business, Duck Commander, and appears along with his father, uncle and brothers on the A&E reality series, will be attending the speech as the guest of freshman Rep. Vance McAllister (R-La.).

In a statement to the media, McAllister said, “I am proud to have my close friend, constituent and small business owner, Willie Robertson, attend tonight’s State of the Union Address as my special guest. Willie is thankful for this opportunity and honored to attend. I look forward to the two of us representing the Fifth District in DC this evening and bringing some diversity to our nation’s capitol.”

By diversity, he must be referring to the lack of long, bushy beards among members of today’s Congress.

As the Hollywood Reporter pointed out, McAllister’s election campaign was given a boost last year by “Duck Dynasty” patriarch Phil Robertson, who subsequently became the focus of a heated media controversy when A&E suspended him following his comments about gay people and black people in GQ magazine.

The elder Robertson was reinstated after a loud public outcry, but the once-top-rated series saw its ratings dive for the new season, which debuted earlier this year.
