‘Vanilla Ice Goes Amish’ is coming to TV this year

Vanilla Ice is no stranger to reality TV, but his latest venture may be his strangest one yet. “Vanilla Ice Goes Amish” is actually a series and it will be debuting on DIY Network later this year.

The title pretty much says it all. Ice (real name Robert Van Winkle) will embed himself in the Amish community, which prides itself in a strong work ethic and some awesome barn raisings. And they accomplish their master craftsmanship without the aid of electricity.

The series, which was announced as part of DIY’s Upfront presentation to advertisers Tuesday, is currently in production. But Van Winkle shared his enthusiasm via Twitter, writing, “This show is going to be amazing, pure magical. Get in where you fit in, and I’m sitting in with the Amish. LOL.”

Van Winkle is already part of the DIY family with his other reality series, “The Vanilla Ice Project,” in which he renovates old homes. The series is currently airing its third season. A fourth season will air this fall.

For those with short memories, Vanilla Ice first achieved fame as a rapper in the early 1990s with the hit “Ice Ice Baby.” However, his musical career took a downturn by 1994 when he released his second studio album, “Mind Blowin.”

In the years since, he’s continued to record music and picked up a side career in real estate, which has led to his current incarnation as a DIY Network star.

He’s also appeared in such reality shows as “The Surreal Life” and “Celebrity Bull Riding Challenge.”
