The 1,400-square-foot boutique was conceived in collaboration with Denver firm Design Platform LLC and will marry the line’s original branding, new elevated aesthetic and beachy locale with large windows, raw woods, distressed metals and an ivy-covered exterior.
“This is the first store I helped build from top to bottom,” enthuses Susan “Pete” Peterson, the brand’s vice president of creative and design. “We want people to know that it’s Michael Stars, but it’s a little more organic to suit the setting.”
The store is where Michael Stars — once exclusively a T-shirt company — plans to launch its new, well-rounded fall clothing and accessories collection, which includes pants, outerwear, hats and sunglasses. The new merchandise is slated to hit shelves in late July.
Michael Stars, Malibu Country Mart, 3835 Cross Creek Rd., Unit C, Malibu; (310) 774-5561. Hours: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday-Saturday; 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.
