Morton’s? Get it to go

Share

Restaurants come and go, but Morton’s is different. For the last 14 years, it has been the site of arguably the hottest Oscar-night party in town, hosted by Vanity Fair. The restaurant’s tables have been occupied by moguls, artists, prime ministers and an endless spate of celebs. Now those tables -- and the chairs, glasses and silverware -- are to be put up for sale. Pamela Morton, who has run the place, declines to discuss the reason for the closing, but after Morton’s serves its last dinner Dec. 22, almost everything in sight will be sold -- banquettes, mirrors, even the plants. Prices haven’t been set yet, but if you want a memento of all those Oscar parties to which you weren’t invited, just turn up at the restaurant starting Dec. 24. Everything must be cleared out by Jan. 2, Morton says. 8764 Melrose Ave., Los Angeles; (310) 276-5205.
