LOS ANGELES, Sept. 28, 2004 – Distinction Magazine has named Holly Palance as editor-in-chief, it was announced by Publisher Jane Dalea-Kahn. Palance had served as editor-in-chief of Santa Barbara Magazine since 2000.
The magazine also announced:
- the appointment of Mitria Di Giacomo as eastern advertising director, based in New York; and
- the promotion of Jo Campbell-Fujii to advertising director from advertising sales manager.
Launched in 2003, Distinction magazine reaches more than 65,000 affluent, influential, socially prominent individuals living in the wealthiest communities of Southern California. It is published bi-monthly by Angeles Publications, a division of Tribune Los Angeles, Inc.

Under her leadership, Santa Barbara Magazine was awarded the Maggie Award as "Best City Magazine" in 2002. Before joining Santa Barbara Magazine, she spent a decade as contributing editor and columnist with Buzz Magazine. Her column, "The Hills," was nominated for a Maggie Award as Columnist of the Year, and was reprinted in the New York Times and Marie Claire, among other publications. Her other freelance work has been published in the Los Angeles Times and in Cosmopolitan and Travel + Leisure magazines.
Before entering journalism, Palance was an actor in Europe and the United States. Trained at the Webber-Douglas Academy in London, her stage, film and television credits include "Romantic Comedy," "The Omen," "Under Fire," "The Best of Times" and the ABC Television mini-series, "The Thorn Birds."
Palance has taught global studies and entrepreneurship classes at the University of California, Santa Barbara. She is a board member of "City Hearts," a Los Angeles-based non-profit organization providing arts classes for underprivileged youth.
Mitria Di Giacomo
Di Giacomo, who is based in New York City, had served as director of advertising sales and marketing with WomensBiz.US, a monthly business-to-business publication, since January 2004. Prior to that, she spent five years as an independent consultant servicing new and leading brands such as Petals, Vivre, Silhouette and Fiftyfabgifts.com, as well as non-profit clients including the Fashion Group International.
In 1992, she joined Felissimo, a high-end lifestyle retailer, as creative services director and later was promoted to vice president, corporate marketing and creative services. Her work at Felissimo won two gold Clios for best packaging design and two international awards for catalog design. At Geneco, which she joined in 1989, she was responsible for repositioning all corporate communications including advertising, press and promotional materials, and in-store point of purchase collateral for the Crossings and Essay-Linda Larson knitwear collections.
Born in Florence, Italy, she is a graduate of the Fashion Institute of Technology.
Before joining Distinction magazine in 2003 as advertising sales manager, Campbell-Fujii spent two years as associate publisher of Museums Los Angeles Magazine. Prior to that, she was West Coast advertising director for Stagebill Magazine.
While based in New York from 1994 to 1998, she served first as liquor category director for New York Magazine and then as European automotive director for The New Yorker. In 1990, she helped launch Buzz Magazine and spent four years in Los Angeles as its national advertising director. Prior to that, she served with WM in New York, where she produced advertorial sections for Condé Nast Publications. She also has held advertising positions with Caribbean Business newspaper, Vision Europe Magazine, McGraw-Hill and McCann-Erickson.
She earned a bachelor's degree from Mary Baldwin College in Virginia.
