Police on Friday identified a homicide victim found dead in a Santa Ana apartment complex.

The body of Victorino Cruz, 58, who police say was living apart from much of his family in Mexico, was found Tuesday.

Salvador Barragan, 37, of Anaheim, was arrested Thursday on suspicion of murder and booked into Santa Ana Jail in lieu of $1-million bond, according to a police news release.

Barragan was arrested without incident after detectives called him in for an interview, noting he was a “person of interest,” said Cpl. Anthony Bertagna, spokesman for the Santa Ana Police Department.

Barragan and Cruz were described as acquaintances, but police wouldn’t elaborate on their relationship, Bertagna said.

Authorities declined to state how Cruz died.

Before Barragan’s arrest, homicide detectives began investigating Cruz’s death as a homicide because it appeared “suspicious in nature.”

The investigation is ongoing.
