Fatal crash closes eastbound 210 Freeway in La Verne; 1 person killed, 1 injured

A fatal crash involving a dump truck shut down the eastbound 210 Freeway in La Verne for much of the morning commute Wednesday.

The collision between the truck and a car occurred shortly before 3:45 a.m. near Fruit Street, sending the truck through the center divider, according to the California Highway Patrol and Caltrans. 

One person died at the scene, CHP Officer Monica Posada told KTLA. Another person was injured and taken to a hospital.

A SigAlert remained in effect hours later as crews worked to clear the wreckage. As of 8 a.m., all but the carpool lanes in either direction had been reopened.

The cause of the crash remained under investigation.
