Couples taking sunset picture hit by train; one dead, two injured

One person was killed and two others injured Saturday night when they were struck by a train near Santa Barbara.

The accident took place at Vista Point on the Gaviota coast northwest of Santa Barbara.

According to the Santa Barbara County Fire Department, one person was pronounced dead at the scene.

Another person was airlifted to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital with major injuries and a third suffered moderate injuries and was taken to the hospital by ambulance.

KSBY News reported that two women and two men in their 20s were standing on the tracks on a trestle, taking pictures of the sunset just before 6 p.m., when the train came around the corner.

They tried to run, but one woman and two men were struck. The woman was thrown from the trestle and died, the station reported.
