A small plane smashed into a field near Paso Robles Saturday killing the pilot and his passenger.

Soon after the Piper Cub single-engine plane took off around 10 a.m., witnesses watched it veer to the right, spiral and then barrel into the ground, said Tony Cipolla of the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Department.

The sheriff’s department identified the two men as Robert Berg, 82, and John Warren, 66, both of Paso Robles.
