The man in the mariachi suit

Share

Choose a word to describe Los Angeles.

For photographer Frank Castro -- who goes online by Meet Frankie C -- that word is diverse. And last month, while he was out shooting photos, he saw something that clearly represented the city’s diversity: a man in Chinatown wearing a mariachi suit.

“I couldn’t let that image just walk by,” Castro said.

What caught Castro’s eye was that the man’s suit matched the deep red of the wall he’d been standing near. Castro approached the man and learned he was a singer at his church. The two took a few photos, and the mariachi singer wished Castro his blessings before going on his way.

Castro used a 5D Mark II with a 27-70mm f/2.8L lens to make this image on Jan. 25.
