Born and raised Angeleno now living in Chicago. My vote is for more public transportation and for us to kick out everyone that arrived in Southern California after, oh say 1980, the last time I really remember the place not being completely crowded, overpriced, dirty, and crime ridden.
Monorail right down the center of the freeway is what we need -- cruising above cars.
A bit sad isn't it - to see what a beautiful canyon that was before the freeway. Also makes you wish for a much-less-populated Los Angeles where Sepulveda was enough of a road to move just-a-few commuters and to the Valley. Can you imagine?
L.A. will never go back - but perhaps we really should be thinking of how Los Angeles can become more livable. One way would be to return to our mass transit roots. There should never be a project like the "new 405" without mass-transit and bike-transit worked as a primary feature in the plan.
