Legislator from Diamond Bar is new head of state Senate GOP caucus

State Sen. Bob Huff of Diamond Bar was elected Wednesday as leader of the Republican caucus in California’s upper house, replacing Sen. Bob Dutton of Rancho Cucamonga.

Huff, 58, was unanimously approved for the post as the Legislature heads into another difficult year. Lawmakers will have to work with Gov. Jerry Brown to address an expected $13-billion budget shortfall.

“The governor has indicated that he will work with Republicans when possible, and Senate Republicans are open to compromise and crafting true, bipartisan solutions,” Huff said in a statement.

His district encompasses parts of Los Angeles, Orange and San Bernardino counties.

A former assemblyman and Diamond Bar mayor, Huff is the owner of a commodity wholesale business, Ray S. French Co.

His wife, Mei Mei, has served as a paid consultant to billionaire developer Ed Roski Jr., owner of Majestic Realty. In 2009, Majestic won legislative approval for a waiver of environmental laws for a football stadium that Roski wants to build in the City of Industry.
