Laguna Beach party paradise

Share

When Rosanne and Dennis Kline purchased this oceanfront Laguna Beach house nestled between Aliso Creek Beach and the Montage Resort & Spa in 2004, their intention was to hold on to it for a few years.

The ‘80s glass-block look wasn’t their style, so they embarked on a down-to-the-studs remodel that lasted three years and cost a hefty $2.5 million.

“We wanted it to be warm and contemporary, not too urban, but clean and functional -- a sense of luxury without being stiff or uptight,” said Rosanne Kline, who is also the listing agent.

From the minute visitors walk up the custom stone steps and enter through the Neoporte stainless-steel double doors with glass inserts, one thing is clear: No expense was spared in this no-budget remodel gone wild.

The hotel-inspired master bathroom has zebra wood cabinets, walls are textured in Venetian plaster, 2-foot-square honed Spanish marble tiles extend out to the upper patio, and a Murano Italian black glass chandelier hangs above the spiral staircase with a stainless-steel railing system and cherry wood steps.

Beyond the high-end materials and ocean views, the home is designed for the serious entertainer. On the lower level, the Klines removed what was the fifth bedroom and sixth bathroom and opened up a 30-by-40-foot space to create a combination billiards-bar-entertainment area.

Designed by Euro Kitchens, the bar brags of SieMatic (German) cabinetry, Caesarstone (engineered quartz) countertop, a dual refrigerator-freezer and a Miele mini-bar dishwasher.

From there, 50 or more guests could easily flow out to the extended lower deck to catch the sunset, watch a whale or sea lion swim by or access the beach through a private gate. With a flip of a switch, a 1,200-watt roof spotlight illuminates the sand and the party continues.

Restless entrepreneurs that they are, the Klines shifted gears a few months after the last phase of the remodel was completed and put the home on the market last year. One day a professional athlete was touring the property and inquired whether Dennis Kline’s 2003 bright-red Ferrari 360 Modena was part of the package. Although it wasn’t in the plan, they readily agreed, but the athlete passed and bought another property. From that point forward, however, the Ferrari, with 6,500 original miles, has been used to jump-start interest in the property.
