But how many so-called pop artists can claim to have an entire book devoted to a single song?

That pistol shot drumbeat still slaps a listener awake. The song’s driving energy and merciless lyrics not only changed radio, music and Dylan’s peers in 1965, it still stands as a challenge to artists, regardless of genre.

Forty years on, Dylan himself still shines as a beacon of integrity, intelligence and simple hard work in a world that elevates mediocrity, rewards whorishness and enshrines stupidity.
