To the editor: What an inspirational piece. For many teenage parents, hope and inspiration aren’t easily found. Typically, stories about teen parents focus on pregnancy or dropout rates. (“From high school dropout to top education official,” March 28)

Stories of resilient women like Debra Duardo hardly ever make the headlines. As a minority, a past dropout and a teen parent, she has an understanding of the at-risk communities she’ll be serving in her new role as the top education official for Los Angeles County.
