Update: No. 23 UCLA is trying to chase down first-place Arizona. California is trying to chase down UCLA. The Bruins handled the Bears, 76-64, at Pauley Pavilion but saw a 19-point second-half lead trimmed to five before recovering their initiative. UCLA has been a much stronger second-half team in its last three games, but two of those were at home and the other was at last-place USC. The Bruins have lost three consecutive games at Haas Pavilion. The Bears are led by guard Justin Cobbs, who averages 16.0 points and 6.0 assists, and forward Richard Solomon, who averages 11.8 points and 10.3 rebounds. However, Cal’s success often hinges on three guards: sophomore Tyrone Wallace and freshmen Jordan Mathews and Jabari Bird.
