USC receiver Dwayne Jarrett is expected to announce today that he will give up his final year of eligibility and make himself available for the NFL draft.

Jarrett, a two-time All-America, interviewed prospective agents Monday and Tuesday in New Jersey. He was scheduled to return to Southern California on Tuesday night, Coach Pete Carroll said.

USC has scheduled an afternoon news conference for Jarrett.

Jarrett, a junior, caught 70 passes and scored 12 touchdowns this season. He had 11 receptions for 205 yards and two touchdowns in the Trojans’ 32-18 Rose Bowl victory over Michigan.

Asked which way he thought Jarrett was leaning, Carroll said: “I think he’s compelled by his opportunity. I think the way he finished the season does position him such that he’s going to be thinking he can make the most of that opportunity.”

Offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin will interview to become head coach at the University of Minnesota on Friday, according to Carroll.

Steve Sarkisian, USC’s assistant head coach, interviewed Monday with the Oakland Raiders. Sarkisian, who was the Raiders’ quarterbacks coach in 2004, said Monday that he anticipated speaking with Raiders owner Al Davis today.

Defensive end Jeff Schweiger and running back Michael Coleman might leave the program, a source said.

Schweiger, a junior from San Jose, played sparingly as a backup this season as the Trojans adopted a 3-4 scheme to take advantage of their deep and talented linebacker corps.

Coleman, a sophomore from San Bernardino, redshirted after having two hip surgeries. He appeared in four games as a freshman and rushed for 95 yards and a touchdown in 20 carries.

Funeral services for kicker Mario Danelo will be held Friday at 10:30 a.m. at Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church in San Pedro.

In lieu of flowers the Danelo family has asked that donations be made to the USC athletic department in care of the Mario Danelo Endowed Football Scholarship Fund. Donations should be sent to Don Winston, USC Athletic Dept., 3501 Watt Way, Los Angeles, CA 90089-0602.

The donations will go toward endowing a scholarship that will be awarded to a player who initially walks on to the team and then earns a scholarship.
