Clayton Kershaw’s agents in Dodgers camp ... to see Zack Greinke

PHOENIX – Clayton Kershaw’s representatives visited the Dodgers’ spring-training complex Wednesday, but not to negotiate a long-term extension for the opening-day starter.

Casey Close and J.D. Smart were there to watch another of their clients, Zack Greinke, pitch in a minor league game.

Kershaw’s agents and the Dodgers aren’t engaged in talks about a new deal, according to a person familiar with the situation. The two sides have made no plans to meet, the person added.

Kershaw said early in spring training that he didn’t want to negotiate a new contract once the season starts.

Kershaw will become eligible for free agency at the end of the 2014 season. He is under contract for $11 million this year and will be eligible for salary arbitration next year.

By signing Kershaw to a new deal this year, the Dodgers figure to be able to lock him in at a lower rate than they would next year or the year after.
