And on the 10th day, the Dodgers finally placed Mark Ellis on the disabled list.

Of course, they needed to make room on the 25-man roster to activate left-hander Chris Capuano from the 15-day disabled list so he could start Monday against the Diamondbacks, but at least they finally did it.

The Dodgers played the last eight games with Ellis and his sore quadriceps still on the active roster, leaving them a man short. If they had at least placed him on the DL Friday, they would have had another position player to use in the three games in San Francisco.

Because Ellis has not played since April 26, the Dodgers can make the move retroactive and can actually activate him Sunday if his leg recovers.

Capuano started the season in the bullpen, but when injuries began to befall starters, he was placed back in the rotation.

In his first start, he strained his left calf while covering first base. He ended up completing just two innings, being charged with five runs on five hits and a pair of walks.

Ellis marks the 12th time the Dodgers have used the disabled list in their first 30 games, and more may be coming soon.

Jerry Hairston Jr. is battling a sore groin and the Dodgers were going to determine after pregame workouts and treatment whether to place him on the DL and call up another outfielder.
