Yasiel Puig’s debut launches series of Dodgers classics

Can you launch a series of classic Dodgers broadcasts without showing Game 1 of the 1988 World Series -- or, as we like to call it, the Kirk Gibson game?

Yes, according to the folks at SportsNet LA. The all-Dodgers, all-the-time channel, which launches Tuesday, will air the first of what it calls “Timeless Dodgers” replays on Wednesday.

The replays will include historical standards and more recent games. The first “Timeless Dodgers” game is less than a year old -- Yasiel Puig‘s major league debut, in which he singled in his first at-bat and threw a runner out at first base to end the game.

If you live in Los Angeles, you won’t be able to see it, unless you have Time Warner Cable.

Although the Gibson game is not among the first few classic games selected to air, a TWC spokesperson said the game would be broadcast later this season. Some highlights of the games already selected:

Thursday: Game 3 of the 1981 World Series, in which Fernando Valenzuela beat the New York Yankees with a complete game in which he gave up four runs, seven walks and nine hits.

Saturday: Game 7 of the 1965 World Series, in which Sandy Koufax clinched the title with a three-hit shutout -- on two days’ rest -- top beat the Minnesota Twins, 2-0.

March 13: The 2006 game against the San Diego Padres in which the Dodgers tied the score with four consecutive home runs in the ninth inning and won on Nomar Garciaparra’s home run in the 10th.

March 19: Clayton Kershaw‘s major league debut, in 2008. The middle infielders behind him: second baseman Luis Maza and shortstop Chin-lung Hu.

March 24: Puig’s fourth game, in which he hit a grand slam.

March 31: Puig’s second game, in which he hit two home runs.
