Football: Canoga Park and Sylmar are on collision course

Share

There’s nothing likely to stop Canoga Park (6-1) and Sylmar (5-2) from playing for the Valley Mission League championship on Nov. 7 at Sylmar.

Neither team has been challenged yet in league play, so it will be interesting to see if the coaches from both teams can continue to keep their players focused while not looking ahead to the regular-season finale that could decide seeding in the City playoffs.

Canoga Park is in Division I; Sylmar is in Division II.

Sylmar quarterback Clarence Williams completed 10 of 14 passes for 272 yards and four touchdowns last week in a 61-8 win over Van Nuys.

Canoga Park, led by running back Darius Jones, rolled to a 48-0 win over Reseda. Jones has already rushed for more than 1,000 yards and 15 touchdowns in seven games.

Canoga Park plays Panorama and San Fernando in its next two games. Sylmar gets Panorama and Reseda.

Then it’s showdown week.
