Update: This renews a rivalry that intensified last season, when the Kings overcame an 0-3 deficit to win their first-round playoff series against the Sharks in a Game 7 played at San Jose. In their only previous meeting this season, the Sharks prevailed, 4-0, in the season opener for both teams.

The Kings haven’t played since Monday, when they squandered a third-period lead and lost to Calgary, 4-3, in overtime. In that game, winger Marian Gaborik extended his goal streak to five straight games. He has seven goals and nine points in that span. The Sharks’ five-game winning streak ended Monday in a 3-2 overtime loss to the Ducks at Anaheim, but they have points in 10 of their last 11 games (9-1-1).

Sharks forward John Scott will start a four-game suspension for punching an unsuspecting opponent and causing an injury last Monday, when he punched Ducks forward Tim Jackman. To replace Scott, the Sharks recalled Micheal Haley from Worcester (Mass.) of the American Hockey League. He had 10 goals, 13 points and 60 penalty minutes in 27 games with Worcester.
