Clippers’ Brian Cook sprains ankle

Celebration and relief over the Clippers’ first road victory of the season were tempered by another injury.

Reserve forward Brian Cook, who was having an effective game, suffered a sprained right ankle in the final minute of Friday night’s win against the Detroit Pistons.

Cook had 12 points, shooting five for eight from the field, including one three-point field goal. He is considered doubtful for Saturday night’s game at Chicago.

“I blocked a shot and I just came down wrong on my foot,” said Cook, who was able to leave the court on his own, limping off to the locker room.

“I twisted it, sprained it. It’s pretty swollen right now, but I still have strength in it. It’s going to hurt. I was just trying to play hard. Stuff happens. It’s part of the game. I’m going to get treatment on it and get back as soon as possible.”

There was one lineup change, and it seemed to benefit both players, eventually.

Rookie point guard Eric Bledsoe started and veteran Baron Davis came off the bench. Bledsoe, who had six points against the Philadelphia 76ers on Wednesday, had 12 points and eight assists. He still had four turnovers.

Davis was scoreless in the first half, playing just under 10 minutes. He finished with seven points and six assists and did not have any turnovers. He said he didn’t find out he was coming off the bench until he arrived at the arena for the game, and he felt as though he adjusted better in the second half.
