Rams Coach Jeff Fisher receives contract extension

Rams Coach Jeff Fisher has received a contract extension, a person with knowledge of the situation said.

Fisher is in the final season of a five-year contract that pays him $7 million a year. The Rams are 4-7 this season and Fisher has a 31-43-1 record with the Rams heading into Sunday’s game against the New England Patriots at Gillette Stadium.

General Manager Les Snead also received an extension, said the source, who requested anonymity to avoid getting ahead of the expected official announcement.

Despite his record, Fisher before the season was thought to be in line for an extension for helping to oversee the Rams’ move from St. Louis to Los Angeles.

But the Rams did not announce it before a season-opening loss against the San Francisco 49ers or after the Rams got off to a 3-1 start.

Fisher has maintained throughout the season that he does not “look over my shoulder” and that owner Stan Kroenke understood the challenges the franchise faced because of the move.

Fisher made those statements again this week, which was marked by the controversy surrounding his feud with hall of famer Eric Dickerson.

“I’ve said over and over again. I’m not concerned about my job,” Fisher said this week. “I have a great relationship with Stan. He understands the difficulties that were placed on this organization, as far as the move is concerned.

“And I’m moving forward, optimistically, with this team. In fairness to the fans and in fairness to the players, that’s all I can do.”

Fisher has a record of 173-163-1 in 22 NFL seasons with the Houston Oilers, Tennessee Titans and the Rams. He has had six winning seasons, including 13-3 in 1999 when the Titans lost to the Rams in the Super Bowl.
