Lakers, Vujacic agree on three-year deal worth $15 million
The player and GM Mitch Kupchak both say they’re happy the reserve guard will remain in Los Angeles.
One day after threatening to bolt for Europe, Lakers reserve guard Sasha Vujacic reached a verbal agreement today on a three-year contract, worth about $15 million, to stay with the team.
“Sasha is excited to stay with the Lakers and play a pivotal role that will hopefully lead to a title next season for Los Angeles,” said Rob Pilenka, Vujacic’s agent.
Lakers General Manager Mitch Kupchak said, “We are happy to have Sasha back.”
Vujacic, 24, was unavailable for comment.
Vujacic, who had been negotiating with a team in Russia, was given a $2.6-million qualifying offer by the Lakers after the season to make him a restricted free agent, but he had not received an offer from another NBA team.
A native of Slovenia, Vujacic just finished his fourth season with the Lakers, averaging 8.8 points during the regular season while shooting 45.4% from the field, including 43.7% from three-point range, all career bests.
The Lakers drafted the 6-foot-7 guard with the 27th pick in the first round of the 2004 draft.
