Xavier Henry injures right knee, will have MRI exam Monday
Laker forward Xavier Henry left the game against the Philadelphia 76ers on Sunday night with a strained right knee, another in a long line of injuries to the team’s dwindling list of players able to run the point.
Henry exited with 1:14 left in the first quarter. He’ll undergo an MRI exam Monday to determine the severity of the injury.
The Lakers have struggled at point guard, losing Steve Nash (back), Steve Blake (elbow) and Jordan Farmar (hamstring) for long stretches this season. Farmar returned on Christmas Day.
Kobe Bryant briefly took over at the point but was felled by a knee injury.
The 6-foot-6 Henry is an athletic forward capable of playing guard, and he held his own while playing out of position for the Lakers.
The Lakers signed point guard Kendall Marshall from the NBA Development League on Dec. 20, but he wasn’t given much of an opportunity to play.
If Henry is out beyond Sunday night, Marshall might get a chance to prove himself.
The Lakers play again Tuesday, hosting the Milwaukee Bucks (6-24).
