Update -- Tonight’s game is the second half of a doubleheader. At 5 p.m., a “farewell match” will be played in honor of retired Galaxy and El Salvador national team midfielder Mauricio Cienfuegos. The match will be between a team of former Galaxy players, including Carlos Hermosillo, Eduardo “El Tanque” Hurtado, Alexi Lalas and Greg Vanney, and a team of former Salvador national team players, including Jorge “El Magico” Gonzalez, “Papo” Castro Borja, Jaime Alberto Rodriguez and Raul Diaz Arce. Cienfuegos, who since retiring at the end of last season has had a book published and has earned his “A” coaching license, will play one half for each team. Former Galaxy and U.S. national team coach Lothar Osiander will coach the Galaxy veterans, and former El Salvador coach Milon Djoric will coach the Salvadoran side.

The Galaxy comes into the nightcap with the best record in MLS one-third of the way through the season. It also leads the league in goals scored and is unbeaten at home (3-0-2) after five games. In contrast, the Wizards are 0-4 on the road, even though their defense is among the league’s best. Both teams are missing their star players. Kansas City midfielder Preki still is recovering from a broken left leg, and Galaxy striker Carlos Ruiz remains sidelined by a badly sprained right ankle.
