USC freshmen preview: Marvell Tell could be in the mix at safety

This month, we are previewing each USC freshman joining the team in training camp.

Position: Safety
Number: 7
Height: 6-foot-2
Weight: 190 pounds
High school: Encino Crespi
Hometown: Pasadena
High school: Tell played defensive back and receiver during his three-year career. He intercepted four passes and caught 30. He scored six touchdowns.
USC safety breakdown: USC coaches searched for safeties in the last recruiting cycle. Sophomore John Plattenburg and junior Leon McQuay either started or played significant snaps last season. Chris Hawkins, who started four games at cornerback, moved to safety. Walk-on Matt Lopes also has experience.
Season prediction for Tell: Could find a role in the safety rotation and on special teams.
