Tour yachts, watch a JetLev blast off at the Newport Boat Show

One of the biggest draws at the 39th Newport Boat Show in Newport Beach this weekend might not be a boat at all.

JetLev Southwest will have demonstrators taking off and flying as high as 30 feet in the air with a water-propelled jetpack called the JetLev R200. Visitors can enter to win a free flight and try their hands at flying, hovering and landing. This is the second year Jetlev has performed demos at the boat show.

Of course, the show is really about getting a firsthand look at more than 200 of the newest and flashiest yachts, tugboats, sailboats, motor yachts and all sorts of pleasure boats.

Super-luxury boats this year include the 79-foot Johnson Cockpit Motoryacht, which has a large deck and four staterooms, and the 2012 Sunseeker 63 Manhattan, which has five staterooms and entertainment space.

The show extends over a huge array of floating docks and boardwalks at Lido Marina Village (at the intersection of Via Lido and Newport Boulevard) that allow visitors to step aboard and explore.

It runs 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are available online or at the show; admission is $15 for adults, free for children 12 and younger.
