Shipwreck never again

Share

Thanks for the info about cruise line refunds [“Lessons From a Storm-Tossed Cruise,” Travel Insider, Oct. 5]. It appears greed conquers even the worst weather.

I cut out the article and will save it in my wishful vacation file. If I ever get a chance to go, at least I will be forewarned.

My wife and I were late arriving in Miami for a Carnival cruise that was scheduled to leave at 4 p.m. (We got to the airport at 4:15.) That was our fault.

We asked the Carnival staff at the airport if the ship left on time, and three different staff members said it did.

We flew to Mexico to catch the ship.

We found out after boarding the ship in Mexico that the ship left three hours late in Miami, not until 7 p.m.

Carnival would not take any responsibility; that cost us more than $1,200.

They said it was our fault for arriving late.

We could have been dockside by 5, two hours before the ship actually left. We will never go Carnival again.

For people who wish and are willing to pay the price, there are still elegant cruises available. When ships got bigger, the lines had to relax standards in order to fill them.

Let your agent know that this is the kind of cruise you desire.
