There was lots of hype surrounding Katy Perry‘s performance at this year’s MTV Movie Awards -- mostly because the singer had promised to appear naked on stage.

After the show Sunday, she joked with reporters about the miscommunication.

“MTV twittered that I’m gonna be naked on stage and I think I’m gonna sue them, because I’m really upset,” she said with a smile. “I had to represent California girls by wearing Daisy Dukes and bikinis on top. California girls aren’t all naked.”

As for the identity of a true California girl, Perry said her song “California Gurls” was about grounded, non-Hollywood chicks.

“I think there’s something about them that is continually down to earth,” she said. “And I’m not talking about Hollywood girls, because I think we know most of those girls that are fresh off the bus that get boob jobs and climb everybody to the top of the ladder and you wanna puke. We’re not talking about those girls. We’re talking about girls that are like fine, fresh, fierce.”

But more importantly, what did her fiancé, Russell Brand, think of her sexy getup?

“Oh, well, he likes boobs, so,” she smiled. “Let’s just say he wants me to keep it on. He’s a really great encouragement and a really great support.”
