The National Conference of State Legislatures has chosen Assemblywoman Fiona Ma (D-San Francisco) to be its overall co-chair for 2011-2012.
In her new leadership position, Ma said she will help “represent the states’ agenda in the continuing debate over the changing state-federal relationship.”
The bipartisan organization works to protect states’ interests in such areas as opposition to unfunded federal mandates, protection of state revenue sources and prevention of “unnecessary preemption” of state laws by Washington.
