Time magazine salutes baseball for ‘inventing’ instant replay

The press release from Major League Baseball Tuesday afternoon had a headline that appeared to be lifted straight out of the Onion:
‘Time cites instant replay as one of its inventions of the year.’
What year? 1959?
Time credits baseball for adopting a limited instant replay system that allows teams to contest controversial home run calls. But the NFL, college football, the Canadian Football League, the NBA, the NHL, tennis, rugby and rodeo are among the sports that adopted instant replay before Major League Baseball.
Here is the list of Time’s Top 50 best inventions of 2008. No mention of the Dodgers’ $90 spring training tickets -- oops, that’s $90 if you buy a season package and up to $125 if you buy that seat on one of the prime dates. No kidding. Cool scented towels included.
