Remember the Allentown Morning Call’s Nittany Lines blog and sports editor Bill Kline? The train wreck assessment of the Rose Bowl’s first half?

Well, Bill’s postgame assessment is in. And he places the blame for the loss squarely on the Nittany Lions’ pass defense. A sample:

‘Indeed, did it take all year for someone to expose Penn State’s pass defense as a fraud? Or is USC’s pass attack just too good, much like a pro offense? ‘I tend to believe it’s more the latter than the former. But there can be no dispute that Penn State’s safeties are not very effective at pass defense. And for some reason, Penn State’s corners were exposed, too. It’s not like SC’s wideouts are that much better than, say, Ohio State’s or Oregon State’s.’

That might rile some USC fans, until they come to his comment about Mark Sanchez, which might rile them even more.

Anyway, the best thing about the Fiesta Bowl on Monday night when No. 3 Texas meets No. 10 Ohio State, probably won’t be the chance to watch the Buckeyes’ wideouts as much as seeing Longhorns quarterback (and Heisman Trophy finalist) Colt McCoy again.
