Stanford guard Kenny Brown was set to go to dental school. Instead, he hung around to make opposing coaches gnash their teeth.

Brown, who is averaging 5.4 points heading into the Pacific 10 Conference tournament, said goodbye to college basketball a year ago, but didn’t quite make it out the door.

‘He would come by and shoot around and sit underneath the basket while I was working with guys,’ Stanford Coach Johnny Dawkins said. ‘I used to wonder, ‘I know he’s done, but he has another year [of eligibility].’ One of my assistants was talking about it, ‘Kenny may be a good fit if he wanted to come back.’ I told him to leave him alone and we’ll see.’

Brown did agree to comeback this season.

‘I said, ‘Sure, the individual workouts were over and the hard work is done, now you want to play,’ ‘ Dawkins joked. ‘Then I remembered, ‘Stanford kid.’ They’re all smarter than me.’

Dawkins has no complaints, especially after Brown dropped in 14 points on ‘Senior Day’ to help beat USC.

‘I think he’s the first guy in Stanford history to have two Senior Days,’ Dawkins said.

Dawkins may want to find some more eligibility for Brown. The Cardinal is 2-0 on Senior Day when Brown plays.
