After being gone from the NHL for more than six years, 41-year-old Theo Fleury made a memorable return to the Calgary Flames in an exhibition game Thursday night. Fleury scored the winner in the Flames’ 5-4 shootout victory against the New York Islanders, to the delight of fans who had always loved his enthusiasm and fire. It was a nice moment for a guy who has gone through a lot of bad stuff throughout his life.

One postscript: the link to the video of Fleury’s shootout goal came to me from Times colleague Andrew Malcolm, our tireless Top of the Ticket blogger and proud author of a book about Fleury, ‘Fury: Inside the Life of Theoren Fleury.’
