Dominique Blackman will get a chance to regain the job he nearly threw away over the summer because of bad behavior.

The Carson senior was set to be the Colts starting quarterback until he was suspended during the summer by Coach Michael Christensen for violating team rules. Blackman missed Carson’s Sept. 7 season opener, a 14-0 loss to Aurora (Colo.) Grandview, but did play briefly Friday in the Colts 19-6 win against Redlands.

Carson will play Long Beach Poly Friday at Veterans Stadium.

Daniel Torres, a sophomore, has been starting in place of Blackman at quarterback. Christensen said both players will compete in practice for the start against the Jackrabbits. Christensen said he would make a decision later in the week.

When asked if Torres had met expectations, Christensen said yes. ‘He’s played well. But it’s a week by week thing on who starts, and our kids know that. It depends on what happens in practice. So we’ll see who steps up.’

Senior running back Jack Sula, who sustained a mild concussion against Grandview, returned to action against Redlands after being cleared by doctors. Sula rushed for 179 yards and a touchdown in 24 carries, but did not defense for Carson.
