Through a quarter and a half, I gotta say I’m really impressed with how the Canyon defense has played, especially its linebackers.

Mike Spagnola, Chris Duncan and Brandon Reeves have made the Crespi run game a no-show so far, forcing sophomore QB Bryan Bennett to make five pass attempts over 25 yards.

He connected on two of them, but one pass was intercepted by CB Ray Maldonado, setting up a five-yard TD pass from QB Sean Gavin to WR Stephen Wirthlin to give Canyon a 7-0 lead midway through the second quarter.

But that isn’t the only mistake the Celts have made. An off-sides penalty on fourth down turned a potential Canyon field goal into a TD and a bad snap killed a good-looking Crespi drive in the first quarter.

However, as I’m writing this, Crespi has put together a 74-yard drive to the Canyon six-yard line late in the second quarter.
