Despite not fielding a full team, the Saugus girls’ cross-country team has to be considered the favorite to repeat as state champions following another sparkling performance at Saturday’s Clovis Invitational.

Running on the same Woodward Park course in Fresno that hosts the state championships every year, the Centurions won the Division I girls’ race in 92 minutes 35 seconds, according to the Daily News. Even better, the result beat last year’s state-championship winning time of 93:06.

Saugus’ Katie Dunn finished third overall in 17:52 and teammates Brianna Jauregui (18:14) and Anne Randall (18:24) finished fifth and seventh.

Mission Prep’s Jordan Hasay (17:23) won the girls’ seeded race with the fastest girls’ time of the invitational and Claire Collison (17:33) finished second for Crescenta Valley.

On the boys’ side, Highland’s Jeremy Acosta (15:25) finished third in the Division I race and Zack Torres (15:30) of Crescenta Valley was fourth.
